Inaugural monetary awards provided to Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, Ride Connect, and YMCA

(SAN ANTONIO) – Three non-profit programs serving San Antonio’s South Side – Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, Ride Connect, and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio – were each awarded $15,000 during Brooks Gives Back’s inaugural monetary disbursement. Brooks Gives Back – Brooks’s community-centric philanthropic organization – was reestablished in 2017 to support non-profits that serve the Brooks campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

“We honed in on two zip codes on and around the Brooks campus – 78223 and 78235 – to determine which organizations were making a meaningful and lasting impact on our community,” said Brooks Gives Back Chairman David Marquez. “These three organizations clearly stood out and we are thrilled to establish our annual monetary awards program with them as our first award recipients.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio serves more than 500 children between ages 6 and 18 in the Brooks area annually through a variety of after-school and summer programs. Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio aims to inspire youth to achieve their full potential in a safe, positive and engaging environment that promotes education, health and character development.

The YMCA of Greater San Antonio serves more than 3,600 members in the Brooks area, annually. The YMCA of Greater San Antonio provides programs and services for all members of the community with a variety of programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

More than 20 percent of Ride Connect’s total membership is on the South Side, with more than 200 members in the Brooks area. Ride Connect provides and coordinates transportation options for senior citizens and people with disabilities who have limited or no driving abilities. Ride Connects programs enable older adults to stay connected to the community by promoting independence, preserving their dignity and enhancing their quality of life.

The $15,000 cash awards are unrestricted funds that will be used to support the organization’s programs at their discretion. Brooks Gives Back raises funds through signature events on the Brooks campus, including the Día De Los Muertos Gala and Chanclas y Cervezas Fiesta partner event. In addition, Brooks Development Authority donates a portion of asset sales proceeds. These and other financial contributions to Brooks Gives Back are used to support meaningful growth and improvements on and around the Brooks campus.

Brooks formed Brooks Gives Back after recognizing the need for a community-centric organization to support the mixed-use community’s mission of promoting and developing a vibrant, sustainable community. Brooks Give Back’s vision is for all who live, work, learn, play and stay at Brooks to be vested in the ideals of the common good, generosity and aspirational growth for the entire Brooks family.
